Not your traditional Christmas morning over the state of Iowa.
Temperatures at sunrise were in the 30s and 40s, on their way to
potentially a few record highs in the 50s to near 60 this afternoon.
Northwest Iowa remains cooler due to fog and snow cover, which will
hold temperatures back in the 30s and 40s. Fog expands over northern
Iowa tonight and could be dense in some areas. Relatively quiet 
conditions continue into the Thursday and Friday, but high 
temperatures take a slide back into the 30s and 40s. 

A storm system moves across the Plains this weekend. Rain is likely 
Saturday with snow possible near the Minnesota border. More widespread
snowfall is possible on Sunday as temperatures cool down. The track 
of this system remains quite uncertain, which leads to significant 
questions about the snowfall potential and severity of any wintry 
impacts to our state. Those with return holiday travel plans this 
weekend should closely monitor the forecast for updates in the coming 
days.
