845 FXUS63 KLBF 180914 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 314 AM CST Wed Dec 18 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Thursday) Issued at 224 AM CST Wed Dec 18 2019 The main concern in the short term is with temperatures today and tonight. Did adjust temperatures a little cooler across the portions of the Sandhills and north central Nebraska where snow cover still remains. Temperatures across the southern forecast area should still reach the upper 40s to low 50s as this area has less snowcover to overcome. As for low temperatures tonight. Models have been running warmer on low temperatures the past few nights. Some of the models are suggesting clouds will move in overnight and thus keeping temperatures from cooling too much. However, forecast confidence is low in widespread cloudy skies overnight with drier air in place, cloud development seems unlikely overnight. RH levels from the surface up to 500 mb is only around 20 to 30 percent, thus decided to lower temperatures for tonight a few degrees. .LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 224 AM CST Wed Dec 18 2019 Thursday night and beyond, above normal temperatures will move into the region this weekend with temperatures in the 50s. This ranges from around 15 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. The dry weather pattern we have experienced the past few days will remain in place with no precipitation chances expected through Tuesday. After Tuesday there has been some hint of a system moving into the area around Christmas that could bring some precipitation to the area. However, there is a lot of uncertainties with this system including precip-type, location and timing thus forecast confidence remains low. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Wednesday night) Issued at 1050 PM CST Tue Dec 17 2019 Low aviation concerns continue through the TAF package with VFR conditions. Latest satellite imagery and surface obs show few swaths of high clouds across limited portions of western NEB. These clouds will continue to filter in from the northwest. Tomorrow, mostly sunny skies are expected. Light westerly breezes tomorrow with winds up to 8-12 kts in the afternoon then diminish tomorrow evening. && .LBF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
