007 FXUS64 KJAN 110959 AFDJAN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jackson MS 359 AM CST Wed Dec 11 2019 .DISCUSSION... Through Tonight: Last of the light rain has cleared the far southeastern portions of the forecast area with the back edge of the cloud cover down to central sections. The clouds will continue to push out this morning with widespread sunny skies by afternoon. Northeasterly winds will stay a little gusty over eastern sections, but diminish in the west as the gradient relaxes. With full sun and weakening cold air advection, highs will warm from the upper 40s north to the mid 50s south. The best possibility for boundary layer decoupling will be over the north and central sections tonight as the surface high pressure center moves overhead. It is in these areas where radiational cooling will be best resulting in lows dropping into the upper 20s and lower 30s. /GG/ Thursday through Tuesday: The progressive upper-level pattern will continue to bring a series of shortwaves across the CONUS into next week. Timing and north- south position can be less certain with these type of embedded shortwaves in zonal flow, but the consensus still suggests more developed waves moving through our region around Friday and again around Monday to Tuesday. Both of these systems will bring an increase in the chance for rain showers as moisture returns ahead of the shortwave troughs. Thunderstorm potential looks to remain mainly south over the Gulf of Mexico Friday/Saturday time frame, but the early next week system looks like it should be able to spin up a surface low pressure system over the Southern Plains and bring better moisture, instability, and wind shear for potential thunderstorm development in our region. If timing is right, there may be a window for potentially severe thunderstorms across a portion of our forecast area. We will continue to monitor trends with this system as the guidance comes into better agreement. /NF/ && .AVIATION... 06Z TAF discussion: The rain will end at HBG and PIB by 11/12Z, otherwise, ceilings will be on the rise with all sites becoming VFR by 11/14Z.
