826 FXUS63 KTOP 040530 AFDTOP Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Topeka KS 1130 PM CST Tue Dec 3 2019 ...Update to aviation forecast discussion... .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 210 PM CST Tue Dec 3 2019 As of 20Z Tuesday afternoon, northwest midlevel flow as present across the Central and Northern Plains as a shortwave trough digs southeastward into the Great Lakes region. An attendant weak surface trough traversed the CWA this morning and currently resides across southeast MO. No impactful weather is anticipated through the next 24-36 hours as surface ridging overspreads the region tonight into Wednesday. Overnight lows tonight are progged to reach the lower 30s, while afternoon highs tomorrow reach the middle 50s. .LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Tuesday) Issued at 210 PM CST Tue Dec 3 2019 Transitioning into the extended period, a predominately dry stretch is expected through the weekend into early next week. By Thursday, the midlevel low, currently off the CA coast, will traverse the Southern Plains as an open wave. The weak ascent coupled with meager available moisture yields low confidence for any measurable precipitation across the area. More notably, another weak front will accompany this shortwave, which will usher in cooler temperatures for late Thursday into Friday. Afternoon highs Friday will only reach the low to middle 40s. Beyond Friday, midlevel ridging will overspread the Plains, yielding quiet weather and mild temperatures. Highs will rebound into the 50s for Saturday and Sunday. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Wednesday night) Issued at 1122 PM CST Tue Dec 3 2019 No significant change for the forecast this period. VFR conditions prevail. Winds look to remain steady enough to keep the boundary layer slightly mixed even with good radiational cooling. Thus, don't think fog will play a factor even if some low lying areas do support shallow fog. Most recent guidance appears to be in favor of this thinking as well. && .TOP WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NONE. && $$ SHORT TERM...Baerg LONG TERM...Baerg AVIATION...Drake
