884 FXUS65 KMSO 272048 AFDMSO Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Missoula MT 148 PM MST Wed Nov 27 2019 .DISCUSSION... Strong winds across our Western Montana today have caused power outages and trees to go down north of I-90. These winds will gradually subside through midnight. In addition, there has been light snow along the Continental Divide and I-90 west of Missoula. Visibility in these areas will be diminished due to blowing snow. Thanksgiving, will see continued wind although not to the magnitude or impacts as today. We are watching a disturbance that will move through southwest Montana during the morning hours. This will initiate another round of snow for areas such as Silver Bow and Lemhi Counties with 2 to 3 inches in southwest Montana. Models have hinted at light snow showers being as far as the Missoula and Bitterroot Valleys although these will be light in nature. We have mentioned the winds but it will also be cold Thanksgiving morning, so expect wind chills from the single digits to 10 degrees below zero for locations in western Montana. Friday evening into Saturday, yet another disturbance will pass southeast of our area. Impacts to visibility and road conditions should be limited to the Continental Divide. That said light snow showers could push as far west as Missoula County. After the weekend, expect a moderating trend towards seasonal norms for temperature. An example would be upper 30’s for highs in western Montana with lows in mid 20’s. There will also be a couple chances for light snow showers in the mountains as minor disturbances transit our area. && .AVIATION...Strong east to northeasterly winds are affecting GPI, MSO, and BTM today. Expect these winds to slacken towards midnight but return Thanksgiving day, however not as strong what occurred today. Expect a wind shift above 2000 to 3000 feet through 28/0300 at MSO and GPI as mid level winds are from the southwest compared to the surface. Snow showers will continue at BTM through 28/0400 and then another period of snow will reduce visibility and cause terrain obscurations at BTM and SMN after 28/0900. && .MSO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
