234 FNUS56 KLOX 181731 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 931 AM PST Mon Nov 18 2019 ...WIDESPREAD ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THROUGH TODAY... ...COLD STORM TO BRING THREAT OF RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW SHOWERS LATE TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY... .DISCUSSION... Santa Ana winds will continue for one more morning before weakening this afternoon. Northeast winds in the Santa Ana prone areas are generally expected to gust between 15 and 30 mph through this morning before weakening and turning onshore this afternoon. This morning's offshore breezes will continue to reinforce the very warm and dry air mass across the region today with high temperatures yet again in the 80s and low 90s for coastal and valley areas. Relative humidities will continue to be very low with widespread values in the lower teens through all four counties and embedded areas of single digit values in parts of Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and Ventura counties. As a result of these conditions, widespread elevated fire danger, with some areas of brief critical fire danger, will continue for much of the day. Relative humidity recovery will be much improved tonight, especially in coastal and valley zones, as the transition to a wetter and cooler weather pattern begins. A trough of low pressure is forecast to move into California on Tuesday. This will bring a dramatic cooling and moistening trend that will persist through the week. A cold storm system will likely bring rain and mountain snow showers at times to the region late Tuesday night through Thursday. Due to the cold and potentially unstable nature of this system, this will likely be a showery rain pattern with widely varying rainfall totals. In general, areas north of Point Conception are expecting between 0.10 and 0.25 inches, and areas south of Point Conception could see between 0.25 and 1.00 inches. This system has the potential to bring brief heavy downpours, and isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, which could lead to potential impacts for the more vulnerable basins of recent burn scars.
