After a very cold start to the day temperatures have warmed 25-35 degrees across the Midsouth bringing us to current afternoon temperatures generally in the middle 50s under clear skies. Weak Southerly flow has returned to the region and should strengthen over the next 24 hours. Sunday should be a very nice day featuring highs in the middle 60s, a south breeze and clear skies. However, conditions are expected to change drastically overnight as a strong winter storm system develops and approaches from the West. Rain should move into East Arkansas by sunrise and spread quickly across the remainder of the Midsouth before midday. Rain will mostly be on the back side of an arctic cold front that is expected to move across the Midsouth by midday. Temperatures will likely cool through much of the day across the Midsouth. Winds will shift from the North resulting in a cool, wet Veterans day. Overnight, light rain may briefly change over to snow or a wintry mix before coming to an end before sunrise. No accumulation is expected. The bigger impact will be extreme temperatures. Temperatures will plummet overnight as arctic air invades the Midsouth. Morning lows as most of you return to school or work Tuesday morning will be in the low to middle 20s with wind chills from around 8 to 18 degrees across much of the area. Record low temperatures are possible Tuesday morning, but record low-High temperatures are likely at all 4 of our climate sites; Memphis, TN, Jackson, TN, Jonesboro, AR and Tupelo, Tuesday. Highs will likely range from 30 to 36 degrees. These records may be broken by over 5 degrees. Wednesday morning temperatures are expected to range from 16-22 across the Midsouth. Wind chills will dip to between 10 and 15 degrees. Wednesday morning temperatures will likely break records again. Portions of the Midsouth may remain below freezing for as long as 40 hours Monday night through Midday Wednesday. Tuesday through next weekend look dry.
