764 FXUS64 KSJT 072353 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 553 PM CST Thu Nov 7 2019 .AVIATION... /00Z TAFS/ Look for challenging flight weather to continue, across West Central Texas, tonight and much of tomorrow. Winds will diminish this evening. With a low stratus deck firmly in place, the potential for any improvement looks unlikely. Also, light showers or mist will continue tonight, and that will help keep ceilings from improving. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued Issued by National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX/ DISCUSSION... Showers are moving across the region this afternoon as weak ascent continues above a shallow cold airmass. Rainfall amounts have stayed mostly below a half inch over the last few hours. The cold front that moved through this morning is currently along the Rio Grande with temperatures remain steady or slowly falling behind the boundary. Cloud cover and showers will continue tonight which will keep low temperatures from falling too much from where they area now. Nonetheless, we should see a freeze north of I-20 with temperatures in the 30's elsewhere. Friday will remain cool and cloudy as overrunning continues to bring in moisture aloft. A few lingering showers are also possible through the morning over the northern Edwards Plateau before drier air moves in by afternoon. Weak upper ridging builds in this weekend allowing for warming temperatures and dry conditions. Highs will likely rebound into the 60's and 70's with light southerly winds. You'll want to get out and enjoy the weather this weekend as big changes are on the way early next week. A large-scale upper trough will move across the Northern Plains Monday sending a strong cold front south in its wake. The front looks to move through the area during the day Monday with falling temperatures behind it. Temperatures fall quickly below freezing Monday night and then the forecast gets interesting. An upper low will develop over Baja California this weekend and slowly progress east. This low will finally get close enough Monday night and Tuesday to provide enhanced lift across the area. Cold air will likely be deep enough for a wintry mix of sleet/snow. Confidence is low as far as winter precip goes so will not change much in the extended for now. Even if we don't see any winter precip, it will be very cold with temperatures well below normal into midweek. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
