615 FXUS64 KHGX 072149 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 349 PM CST Thu Nov 7 2019 .SHORT TERM [Through Friday]... A cold front will continue to move across Southeast Texas this afternoon into the early evening hours. It is currently draped across our northern zones from Brenham to Crockett, with dewpoints behind this boundary in the 40s. The precipitation that we have already seen today developed along the pre-frontal trough axis, and winds have already shifted out of the north around 15 knots this afternoon with gusty conditions. Some showers and isolated thunderstorms should linger through the early afternoon hours before transitioning to rain in the evening hours. Light rain should linger through much of the day Friday, especially along the coast, before clearing out. The colder air will struggle to advect into our region tonight, with low temperatures only bottoming out in the mid 40s to 50s. Cloud cover should linger through much of the day tomorrow, with skies clearing early Saturday. Therefore, expect tomorrow to still be a grey and drizzly day. High temperatures tomorrow will only rebound into the low to mid 50s. Hathaway && .LONG TERM [Friday night Through Thursday]... No significant changes were made to the extended portion of the forecast. Surface high pres will be building into the region and column aloft will be drying out as the flow becomes more nwly. Expect a dry weekend. Temperatures will gradually moderate as surface high pres moves off to the east and a weak onshore flow resumes late Sat night and Sunday. Artic front should be moving southward thru the Plains this weekend...arriving here during the day Monday. With llvl convergence along the front and a tap of Pacific moisture riding in the swly flow aloft we should expect some rain and possibly an elevated tstm ahead of the boundary. Attm, it still appears precip should clear the region before winter wx would be a concern. Much colder and breezy/windy conditions can be expected in its wake. General rule-of-thumb that the 2nd night behind a cold front is typically the coldest (Wed night in this case). Lows are forecast to be in the 20s north of I-10 with the freezing line potentially nearing the inland coastal counties. Questionable parts of the late week fcst will be when the mid/upper low over Baja kicks out and across Tx and the associated return of precip chances. 47 && .Marine... A cold front will continue to push through the bays and Gulf waters this evening, along with the associated showers and isolated thunderstorms. Strong and gusty north to northeast winds along with rough seas will develop after the front moves through, and small craft advisories are in effect. Seas will rise to 4 to 6 feet in the nearshore waters and 5 to 7 feet in the offshore waters. Decreasing northeast to east winds and lowering seas can be expected over the weekend. Another cold front, much stronger than today's, will move through the area on Monday into early Tuesday. Behind this front, confidence is growing that gale watches and warnings will be needed.
