902 FXUS63 KABR 110830 AFDABR Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Aberdeen SD 330 AM CDT Fri Oct 11 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Saturday Afternoon) Issued at 328 AM CDT Fri Oct 11 2019 The early season winter storm continues. Downgraded all counties west river, as well as counties south of Walworth and Edmunds, from Winter Storm Warnings to Winter Weather Advisories. Also upgraded Clark County to a Winter Storm Warning. Presently, surface low pressure is located over northeastern Minnesota. With the exception of McPherson County, snow has become generally light across the forecast area. That said, the surface low is expected to retrograde back to northwest Minnesota and lead to wrap-around snow showers throughout the day today and through Saturday morning. The highest additional snow totals of 6-10 inches are expected to be along the Coteau and Leola hills where upslope forcing will enhance snowfall. Other areas will generally see an additional 1-5 inches which become lower further to the west and south. With a continued tight pressure gradient, winds will remain gusty through the day Saturday. Gusts of up to 50 mph are possible across most of the CWA. This will lead to blowing snow as its falling, but it's unlikely to blow much once on the ground due to the wet and heavy nature of the snow. .LONG TERM...(Saturday Evening through Thursday) Issued at 328 AM CDT Fri Oct 11 2019 The large upper level low pressure system responsible for our current winter storm will be centered over Minnesota at the beginning of the extended period, then will slowly track northeastward away from the area through the day Sunday. Weak upper ridging then builds over the area before the next shortwave trough looks to track across the Northern Plains Monday night and Tuesday. A more zonal pattern sets up for the latter half of the period. As the surface low also exits the region, may see some lingering light snow showers over the northern CWA Saturday night. As the aforementioned second wave tracks across the area Monday night and Tuesday, may also se a few rain or snow showers across the northern CWA. Otherwise, the extended period will be dominated by quiet conditions, with temperatures gradually warming through the week. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, then in the 40s to lower 50s Wednesday, and in the 50s to lower 60s Thursday. Overnight lows will be in the upper teens to mid 20s Saturday night and Sunday night, in the 20s Monday night and Tuesday night, and in the 30s Wednesday night and Thursday night. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Friday Night) Issued at 1225 AM CDT Fri Oct 11 2019 A strong upper level low pressure area over the region will keep widespread snow and strong northwest winds of 20 to 40 knots at all airports through tonight into Friday. PIR and MBG will let up on the snow on Friday morning with the snow ending at ABR and ATY in the late afternoon and evening. Otherwise, IFR/MVFR ceilings and vsbys are expected through most of the time period with PIR and MBG becoming VFR Friday afternoon and evening. && .ABR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
