303 FXUS65 KPIH 112007 AFDPIH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 207 PM MDT Wed Sep 11 2019 .SHORT TERM...Tonight through next Wednesday...Low pressure currently over eastern Montana but moisture is wrapping around the back side of it this afternoon across Idaho. Showers and a chance of a thunderstorm will exist and track from north to south through the early evening hours. Favored areas for precipitation include the Teton area and Upper Snake River Plain with up to 1/4 of an inch of rain forecast in these areas. Tonight, with all the lingering moisture expected in the area, areas of fog are likely to form across Island Park, the Upper Snake River Plain and Teton Areas. Fog may also develop in and near the Palisades, Swan Valley and down to Montpelier. After that, high pressure building in from the west and southwest will influence our weather pattern through the weekend. Temperatures will steadily climb through the Sunday; peaking back to summerlike temperatures into the 80s. We continue to watch the progression of a broad upper trough off the west coast early next week, which is likely to bring the next chance for showers and thunderstorms. Models have been coming into better agreement tracking this trough/low pressure system into our area Tuesday with increasing south and southwest winds bringing moisture into the region and continued opportunies for showers through Wednesday. NP && .AVIATION...An upper level low over Northwest Wyoming is bringing wrap around moisture into our area. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are mainly over Central mountains, Upper Snake Highlands, Upper Snake River plain the Eastern highlands mainly impacting KSUN, KDIJ, and KIDA this afternoon. Lingering low CIGS are gradually rising and should be VFR for all sites by mid afternoon. With high pressure and drier air moving in, sites should remain VFR through evening and tomorrow morning. Expect dry conditions Thursday through early next week. Winds will get become breezy to moderate Friday through early next week. Wyatt && .FIRE WEATHER...Fuels are much wetter thanks to the past couple days of precipitation. Wrap around moisture from a deep upper trough will trigger some scattered showers and some isolated afternoon thunderstorms mainly for the Central Mountains, Upper Snake River plain, Upper Snake Highlands, and the Eastern Highlands. Upper level high pressure ridging will begin to build in late tonight into tomorrow with drier weather tomorrow and Friday. A shortwave will flatten the ridge on Friday creating upper level zonal flow, but no precipitation is expected in southeast Idaho. The trough will likely trigger some stronger winds in zonal flow across the region. Upper level zonal flow will continue so Saturday will be dry and breezy as well. Sunday expect even slightly drier and warmer conditions in a slightly windier Southerly flow ahead of another moist, cool upper level low approaching from the west. Next shot of precipitation will be late Monday into Tuesday as the upper level low moves over our area. Wyatt .PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$
