470 FXUS63 KICT 051143 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 643 AM CDT Thu Sep 5 2019 ...Updated for Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM...(Today through Saturday night) Issued at 250 AM CDT Thu Sep 5 2019 Upper ridge remains anchored from the northern/central Rockies across the central/southern high Plains. The heat will return today across the area with diurnally gusty south to southwest winds over central Kansas. The airmass looks a bit drier in the mean southwest low level flow, so dew points and likewise heat indices should be a little less oppressive. Another weak cold front is progged to move south across Kansas during Friday with slightly cooler (not as hot) weather, more noticeable closer to the I-70 corridor in central Kansas. This looks to be another dry frontal passage with rather modest low level moisture/instability where capping inversion should be sufficient to mitigate chances for convection. The upper ridge will begin to break down by Friday night and Saturday as a shortwave upper trof moves across the northern Rockies into the northern Plains. Very warm southerly flow will return to Kansas with temperatures on Saturday well above seasonal climo again. Darmofal .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Wednesday) Issued at 250 AM CDT Thu Sep 5 2019 A stronger upper trof still looks to move off the Pacific across the western CONUS on Sunday, before lifting northeast across the northern Plains on Monday. Some semblance of a mean upper trof looks to reload and progress across a portion of the western CONUS through Tuesday and Wednesday. While confidence is high for a continuation of above average temperatures, it is relatively lower on daily precip chances/trends. A frontal boundary may sag into the area late in the weekend and provide a focus for convection and perhaps just east of a lee side trof early next week. If so, this looks to mainly affect western and northern potions of central Kansas.
