872 FXUS66 KOTX 042127 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 227 PM PDT Wed Sep 4 2019 .SYNOPSIS... Dry and very warm weather will prevail through Thursday, then a weather system brings a threat for showers and thunderstorms Thursday evening into Friday. Warmer and drier weather is expected Saturday before cool and unsettled weather arrives for Sunday continues into early next week. && .DISCUSSION... Tonight into Thursday: High pressure at the surface and dry westerly flow aloft will keep the weather mostly clear and tranquil overnight into Thursday. Anticipate light winds and mild temperatures overnight. By Thursday, the heat returns briefly as the low level thermal ridge noses into the Inland NW. Expect temperatures to top out in the mid 80s to lower 90s, possibly the last very warm day of the season. Thursday night, Friday and Friday night: The weather pattern changes late on Thursday as the ridge aloft gives way to an approaching Pacific trough. Southerly flow aloft ushers in mid and high level clouds by Thursday evening. Surface based instability will increase across Oregon Thursday afternoon and drift northward. There is a chance of this convection will drift toward the Blue mountains and LC Valley as early as late Thursday afternoon, while most activity arrives during the evening. The main threat from this elevated convection would be gusty outflow winds with gusts of 30 mph or more. Could see a couple more rounds of convection Thursday night, drifting northward from Oregon into extreme eastern Washington and possibly into central Washington by early Friday morning. The upper level trough pivots across eastern WA into north Idaho Friday morning, pulling a deformation band of showers slowly across north Idaho. Mid level instability persists with the upper level trough and could see embedded thunderstorms with the shower bands. The storms are expected to get increasingly wet as pwats rise to around an inch or more, with a good chance of wetting rains from any thunderstorm, especially across north Idaho. Cooler temperatures are expected regionwide with slight cooling across central Washington while some areas in north Idaho being stuck in the mid 70s by Friday afternoon. A ridge of high pressure pushes into the region Friday night with a decreasing trend of clouds and showers. Lingering low level moisture may lead to patchy fog and low clouds in the northern valleys. Anticipate cooler more seasonal temperatures Friday night. /rfox. Saturday through Monday: By Saturday, the storm threat has diminished and the region can expect a mostly precip free Saturday and early Sunday. A few bands of moisture will move through the region creating mostly mountain showers. Another system is expect by late Sunday into Monday. As of now, it has potential to bring another round widespread rain to the region. Rain amounts are currently showing amounts of around a quarter to half an inch of rain for the region. A weak threat of thunderstorms is possible for the northern mountains and could extend into the ID Panhandle. Ridging is expected to build into the region behind this system starting Tuesday morning. Temperatures will in the 70s to low 80s for highs and 50s for lows. /JDC && .AVIATION... 18Z TAFS: VFR conditions expected at all TAF sites through this period with dry weather and mostly clear skies.
