680 FXUS64 KSJT 241946 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 246 PM CDT Sat Aug 24 2019 .SHORT TERM... (Tonight and Sunday) Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue this afternoon, mainly for areas south of Interstate 20. A few lingering showers and thunderstorms are possible this evening, mainly across the Interstate 10 corridor. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 70s. An upper level ridge centered across California will slowly build east into Texas. This will result in an 850mb thermal ridge building into the region. High temperatures on Sunday will be well above seasonal normals, between 98 and 104 degrees. A Heat Advisory was issued for much of the Big Country/Concho Valley, where surface temperatures are expected to be between 102 and 105 degrees. Daniels .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Saturday) The main concern for the long term forecast will be the heat expected for the area on Monday. The upper level ridge that retreated to the west of the area will push back in and intensify through Monday. Temperatures at 850mb may warm to as high as 31 degrees Celsius in our area by Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be well over 100 degrees for most of the area, and readings as hot as 110 degrees are not out of the question for parts of the Big Country and Concho Valley. A Heat Advisory will definitely be needed, if not an Excessive Heat Warning for some of our western counties where temperatures will be hottest. The ridge weakens somewhat mid-week, and a weak cold front is expected to move into at least the northern half of the area. Have kept a slight chance to chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast from Tuesday night into Wednesday night. Temperatures will cool back into the 90s for most areas Wednesday into through the end of the work week, with the ridge weakened slightly, and more cloud cover possible. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms comes next weekend. The GFS had been hinting at another potential cold front moving into the area next weekend, and the ECMWF is also showing this front moving into the area on Saturday. If this front does make it into the area, it will provide another opportunity for precipitation, and potentially a more significant cool down for next weekend. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
