A strong mid level ridge axis is expected to remain in place through the weekend, although its center will be displaced just a touch to the south of our region. This will allow for an active storm track through the Central Plains but most of this shower/storm activity will remain well to our north. A series of embedded impulses in the westerly flow aloft will ever so slowly gradually erode at the eastern periphery of the ridge through the end of next week. This would displace the center of the ridge farther to the west and may open up the Gulf of Mexico allowing for a little better moisture and rain chances by next weekend. Otherwise, it will be hot and humid for the next several days with high temperatures near 100 degrees and heat indices near 105 degrees. We'll hold off on a heat advisory for Saturday for now as mixing may be sufficient for dewpoints to fall into the lower 60s, but it may be required by Sunday as moisture becomes a little deeper.
