014 FXUS66 KOTX 040004 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 504 PM PDT Sat Aug 3 2019 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure returns with warming temperatures over the weekend. Areas of smoke will be possible near wildfires. It will become hot Monday through Wednesday with widespread 90s. The arrival of an upper level trough late next week will bring a chance of mountain showers and more seasonal temperatures. && .DISCUSSION... Tuesday through Wednesday night: High pressure continues to heat up the region with the warmest temperatures generally forecast for Tuesday by a degree or two. Populated lower valley areas from Lewiston/Clarkston to the lower Central Basin into the Okanogan valley can expect to be around 100 degrees with other higher elevations in the middle 90s. This will go on through Wednesday with very mild nighttime lows as well. At the same time the low pressure system off the west coast will be throwing some energy our way in southerly flow which will introduce the potential for a little more clouds and possibly isolated thunder storms. Deterministic models are in fair agreement on the pattern change regarding moisture and thunder potential but don't line up as far as locations for thunder. For now the north Cascades have a little thunder toward late Wednesday afternoon so it does not look like any widespread event and all indications are later in the week will have better potential for thunderstorms. We will continue to stress Heat related issues as a primary safety message as these will be near some of the warmest temperatures of the season for 3 days in a row. TC Thursday through Saturday: The ridge that has been supporting the high temps and dry conditions are expected to break down as a low moves in along the Pacific coast. Models are becoming more in line with each other and the Low is projected to pass through the WA coast. The models highlight the Northern Mountains as receiving rain and isolated lightning for the this period. Models are hinting at some possible convection in the area of Lookout Pass of ID and the crest of the Cascades. Afternoon winds will be breezy with gusts near 20 Mph. Temperatures will dip a few degrees but still remain in the 80s to low 90s. /JDC && .AVIATION... 00Z TAFS: VFR conditions will prevail for the TAF sites throughout the forecast period. Some patchy smoke, however, does pose a threat for reduced VIS in those local areas of regional fires. The latest smoke forecasts look for KLWS to potentially have some smoke 12Z Sunday morning but confidence is low to forecast a restriction to visibility enough to add in the TAF. Winds be locally breezy at KCOE after 12Z Sunday as well as the Okanogan Valley where breezy conditions will gradually taper off through the afternoon. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
