141 FXUS66 KPDT 260209 AFDPDT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pendleton OR 709 PM PDT Thu Jul 25 2019 .SHORT TERM...Satellite shows mid and high level clouds moving northward into Oregon. South to southwest flow aloft will continue overnight into Friday. Mid and high level clouds over California and Nevada will continue to move across much of the forecast area with partly cloudy skies. Instability and any isolated thunderstorm activity late Friday should remain just south of the region. Meanwhile an upper low moving into BC will push a weak cold front through the area late in the day with increasing westerly winds. Humidity profiles remain very dry in the low levels tonight into Friday and this will create a high fire danger with the increasing winds for the afternoon and evening. Smoke from fires over the Washington Cascade east slopes will drift into the Columbia basin with hazy conditions overnight and Friday. 94 && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 111 PM PDT Thu Jul 25 2019/ SHORT TERM...Tonight through Sunday...A dry SW-W flow regime will be over the region for the next few days. A cold front will cross the region Friday. Ahead of the front it will be hot with afternoon temperatures well into the 90s in the lower elevations and 80s in the mountains. At the present time it looks like any thunderstorm activity with the front will remain south and east of the forecast area. Winds will pick up in the Cascade gaps late in the afternoon Friday and continue in the evening before diminishing overnight Friday night. Saturday looks to be breezy and a bit cooler with high temperatures about 5-7 degrees lower than on Friday. The fair weather is expected to continue on Sunday with mostly clear skies, lighter winds and near normal temperatures. 78 LONG TERM...Sunday night through Thursday. Dry conditions with seasonal temperatures will prevail through the extended period as the overall westerly flow pattern remains over the northwest. A weak trough will move inland and fill Sunday night and Monday and again Wednesday with a cool front moving through. Main effect will be some stronger winds through the Columbia River Gorge and through the gaps in the Cascades and will continue to watch for any fire weather concerns, but most models show the timing of stronger winds with increasing rh as marine air spills through. Highs in the 80s to lower 90s with 70s to 80s in mountains. 93 AVIATION...00z Tafs. Mostly clear skies and winds less than 15 knots will continue through the next 18-24 hours. Winds will be increasing at DLS to 15-20kts and gusty after 21z on Friday. FIRE WEATHER...A fire weather watch remains in effect for Friday afternoon and evening for WA and ORE fire zones 639. Gusty west winds and low relative humidities are expected on Friday. The overlap of the stronger winds and lowest RH is expected to be for a few hours roughly from about 22Z-02Z. Gusty winds will continue beyond 02Z but RH's will have recovered by then. 78 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
