168 FXUS63 KTOP 240849 AFDTOP Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Topeka KS 349 AM CDT Wed Jul 24 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 319 AM CDT Wed Jul 24 2019 As of 08Z Wednesday morning, a very amplified midlevel flow pattern resides across the CONUS with troughing in the east and ridging in the west. The ridge axis is progged to deamplify over the next 18-24 hours as a trough, which is currently coming ashore across the Pacific Northwest, ejects across the Northern Rockies. At the surface, an expansive surface ridge axis extends from the Southern Plains through the Upper Midwest, resulting in predominately clear skies with light winds. That being said, some cloud cover remains across far eastern KS where nearly calm winds through the boundary layer have yet to mix out moisture from the diurnal cumulus field Tuesday afternoon. Otherwise, a cool and comfortable night is ongoing across eastern KS with temperatures in the upper 50s and 60s. No impactful weather is anticipated through the remainder of the day and tonight. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid 80s while overnight lows reach the lower 60s. .LONG TERM...(Thursday through Tuesday) Issued at 319 AM CDT Wed Jul 24 2019 Transitioning into the extended period, the aforementioned midlevel trough across the Pacific Northwest will eject eastward and deepen a surface trough across the High Plains. This will in- turn allow southerly low-level flow to overspread the Plains. As a result, a warming trend will continue into the upcoming weekend with temperatures returning to the 90s for the weekend. The next chance for rainfall looks to arrive late Sunday into Monday as a secondary midlevel trough ejects across the Northern Plains, shunting the aforementioned surface trough through the CWA. && .AVIATION...
