853 FXUS61 KCLE 222018 AFDCLE Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Cleveland OH 418 PM EDT Mon Jul 22 2019 .SYNOPSIS... A much cooler and less humid air mass is in place across the region today and for much of the week as high pressure gradually builds into and across the Ohio Valley. Northwest flow in the upper levels will bring below average temperatures early this week giving way to average temperatures in the latter half of the week. && .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM TUESDAY MORNING/... Light showers and mid to high level clouds are still hanging around for a few hours this afternoon before exiting the area tonight. With clearing skies tonight, radiational cooling is expected to be fairly prominent with low temperatures dipping into the mid 50s to low 60s for inland areas and mid 60s for lakeshore areas. Tuesday should be pretty mild in comparison to this past weekend with mostly sunny skies, low dewpoints and a light northwesterly breeze expected during the daytime hours. As the upper level trough slowly moves to the east, a shortwave trough will move southeast through the upstream half of the trough across our forecast area on Tuesday evening. It will be a fairly dry airmass associated with with this shortwave, so the signal for precipitation is fairly low. Will only include a slight chance for precipitation Tuesday evening into the overnight hours. Temperatures will remain below average on Tuesday and Tuesday night. && .SHORT TERM /6 AM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/... A good quiet stretch of weather is on tap for the region for the end of the work week. Temperatures will be seasonable with the upper trough axis to our east. Will still have a bit of northwest flow, but believe any impulse will be weak enough with the surface high in place to keep meaningful precip out of the forecast. Each day will feature slightly warmer temperatures and increasing moisture. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... The upstream frontal system is delayed a bit again and will keep the stretch of fair weather into at least part of the weekend. Increasing moisture and warmer temperatures with the southwest flow will yield itself to some diurnal chances of showers/thunderstorms. High will be mainly in the 80s and lows in the 60s. && .AVIATION /18Z Monday THROUGH Saturday/... Mostly VFR conditions being observed this afternoon across TAF sites with a brief moment of MVFR conditions over the next couple hours at a TAF site or two. Only had enough confidence to include a MVFR tempo for KFDY. High clouds will clear this afternoon and evening from west to east. Winds will generally be less than 10 knots and out of the north through the TAF period. OUTLOOK...VFR. && .MARINE... Northerly winds are expected to increase across the lake tonight and the Small Craft Advisory will stay put as is and will be largely confined to the nighttime hours. This will be in response to the building of high pressure to our west while low pressure departs Long Island. The high will build more firmly overhead by Thursday with general light winds for Tuesday through Thursday. The high shifts east for late week and winds on the lake return to a southwesterly direction. && .CLE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... OH...None. PA...None.
