009 FXUS65 KBOI 150304 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 904 PM MDT Sun Jul 14 2019 .DISCUSSION...Storms are not as widespread as last night, but some significant storms in eastern Oregon have produced a strong gust front that is moving through the Treasure Valley at this time. Wind gusts near 50 mph are moving east and will continue toward Mountain Home through 10 pm. Blowing dust is reducing visibility to near 1 mile in some places. Otherwise, storms continue over northern Harney County, in the Upper Weiser River Basing and across Malheur County. Latest mesoscale guidance indicates isolated storms through midnight, with the possibility of storms developing near Mountain Home and moving into the Boise Mountains after midnight. Will update to allow for this possibility. && .AVIATION...Mostly VFR. Local IFR caused by thunderstorm outflow moving through the Treasure Valley coupled with blowing dust and wind gusts up to 50kts through 04Z. Isolated showers and thunderstorms moving across higher elevations of SE OR dissipating after sundown. Surface winds: west-northwest 5-10kts with 25-35kts in and around thunderstorms and local gusts in the Treasure Valley up to 50kts. Winds aloft to 10k feet MSL: west- southwest 15-25kts. && .PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Showers and thunderstorms will develop along the nw CWA border (Baker County and nw Harney County) this afternoon and spread slowly east tonight as an upper trough comes onshore from the north Pacific. The strongest storms will have hail and wind gusts to 50 mph. Only a few thunderstorms are expected in Idaho south of the Snake Basin. On Monday showers and storms will develop along our northern CWA border then shift to the Idaho side Idaho Monday night as the upper trough comes further inland. Temperatures will cool Monday and hold steady (i.e., about 5 degrees below normal) on Tuesday. No significant winds through Tuesday. LONG TERM...Tuesday night through Friday...Dry northwesterly flow aloft will bring cooler temperatures than what we've been seeing, but still remain close to normal. The upper level flow will start to shift back to the southwest by Friday which will begin a warming trend once again. Friday night through Saturday night...Clear and warmer are the expected conditions as drier, southwest flow dominates.
