693 FXUS63 KLBF 282342 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 642 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2019 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday night) Issued at 325 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2019 Typical summertime upper level ridging has become established across much of the Central/Southern Plains into the desert southwest. This has capped the atmosphere with a warm layer aloft suppressing thunderstorm development. The exception is across the Northern Plains on the norther periphery of the ridging, where several thunderstorm complexes have dove southeast through the Mississippi Valley the last couple of days. This pattern will continue tonight and through the day Saturday. In fact the ridge reaches it's peak Saturday, with highs approaching 100F for most areas. Humidity will remain high and have expanded/issued a heat advisory for areas along and east of Highway 83 Saturday afternoon. A cold front will slowly sag into northwest Nebraska Saturday night as the ridge weakens and begins to flatten slightly. Will continue a slight chance for T- Storms across far northwest Saturday evening, but conditions are not very favorable for development. .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday) Issued at 325 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2019 The upper ridge begins to break down and flatten Sunday, allowing a cold front to slowly move southward across northern Nebraska and the Sandhills. The front will become nearly stationary across this area Sunday night through Monday. T-Storm chances will be on the increase as heights fall and temperatures aloft cool some. Severe chance seems low with overall shear pretty weak, but some locally heavy rainfall will certainly be possible due to slow storm movement and the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. The front remains across northern Nebraska Tuesday and then lifts back northward into South Dakota mid to late week as the upper ridge expands/builds northward into the Central Plains once again. As the front lifts north so will the thunderstorm chances, with just a slight chance for a storm mid to late week. Overall winds aloft remain light through the week, so the organized severe weather is low. Highs will cool back some, with highs most of next week expected to range from the mid to upper 80s. Lows will generally be in the 60s. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Saturday evening) Issued at 641 PM CDT Fri Jun 28 2019 VFR conditions expected through the TAF period under clear- mostly clear skies.
