(Today and Tonight) Scattered thunderstorms were moving southeast across across the western Red River Valley into far northwest Texas. Some of these storms will make into the Big Country this morning. Going with chance Pops and up to likely across Throckmorton County. This activity will end by early this afternoon. Otherwise, going with a mainly dry forecast after 18Z. Highs will be in the lower to mid 80s. Overnight lows will be in the lower to mid 60s. LONG TERM... (Thursday through Tuesday) On Thursday, upper level ridging will be over Northwest Mexico with northwest flow aloft continuing over Texas. Convection will likely develop in the Texas Panhandle in association with an upper level short-wave, and it's possible that this convection will make it down into at least the Big Country counties Thursday night as the short-wave moves into Oklahoma. Moist and warm southerly flow will return Thursday, with highs forecast to be in the upper 80s. Any precipitation from the aforementioned short-wave should exit by late Friday morning, and zonal flow aloft will prevail during the day Friday. Strengthening thermal ridging at 850 mb Friday through the weekend will bring pretty good warming. Highs Friday should be in the low 90s and then the mid to upper 90s Saturday and Sunday.
