166 FXUS66 KLOX 092349 AFDLOX Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 449 PM PDT Sun Jun 9 2019 .SYNOPSIS...09/643 AM. Breezy winds today in the mountains and deserts. Areas of overnight and morning coastal low clouds with patchy fog this week otherwise warm and dry. Above normal afternoon temperatures through midweek then cooling to near normal by the weekend. && .SHORT TERM (TDY-WED)...09/138 PM. A weak Santa Ana event in progress with winds mainly 35 mph or less, but with some isolated gusts near 40 in the LA mountains. Temps warmed up considerably in the valleys with highs in the 90s. However, offshore flow was sufficiently neutralized near the coast where temps remained in the high 60s to mid 70s. Expecting a similar day overall Monday though with lighter Santa Ana winds as gradients decrease and turn onshore in the afternoon. Low clouds expected to form over most coastal areas from SB south tonight and possibly as far north as Pismo Beach early monday. Visible satellite imagery shows a small area of low clouds near Pt Conception this afternoon and while this will likely dissipate by evening clouds may spread back north early Monday as a light southerly flow redevelops. Little change expected Tuesday. Onshore flow is slightly stronger but air mass is warmer so overall little change and possibly slightly warmer inland. A big onshore push is expected Wednesday as the ridge aloft breaks down and a weak trough develops along the West Coast. This will deepen the marine layer and cool off daytime highs by 4-8 degrees. .LONG TERM (THU-SUN)...09/156 PM. The remainder of the week into the weekend will be dominated by strong onshore flow and a marine layer that will spread into the valleys each night and clear to within a few miles of the coast each morning. Primary impact besides the cooler temps will be gusty onshore winds in and around the Antelope Valley increasing the fire danger. Temps will cool to near normal by Thursday and a few degrees below normal Fri through Sun. && .AVIATION...09/2341Z. At 2300Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 700 ft deep. The top of the inversion was near 1400 feet with a temperature of 29 deg C. High confidence in the 00Z Tafs overall, except low to moderate confidence for the Ventura sites and the L.A. County coast and valley sites due to the shallow marine layer influence. For KBUR and KVNY there is a 20% chance that low cigs will affect the site late tonight into early Mon. Otherwise, IFR to LIFR conditions expected for the LA/VTA coastal sites but timing is lower confidence. KLAX...Low to moderate confidence in the 00Z Taf. Lower confidence in timing of low cigs arrival, with a 30% chance conditions drop to LIFR overnight. 20% chance that VFR conditions prevail through the period. High confidence in easterly winds staying below 10 kt. KBUR...Low to moderate confidence in the 00Z Taf. There is a 30% chance that low clouds with IFR to LIFR conditions affect the site between 08Z and 15Z. && .MARINE...09/208 PM. Moderate confidence for all winds staying under Small Craft Advisory through at least Wednesday. With the weakening winds, the short period swell will lower everywhere through the weekend. There is a chance for patches of dense fog with visibilities under 1 mile for areas south of Point of Conception through Tuesday. && .FIRE WEATHER...09/330 PM. Offshore winds generally gusted between 25 and 40 mph earlier today across the mountains, valleys, and deserts. These winds combined with temperatures in the 90s and humidities between 7 and 15 percent to bring elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions to these locations. Offshore winds will gradually diminish through the remainder of the afternoon and evening as competing onshore winds spread inland across coastal and valley areas. Lighter offshore breezes are expected across interior sections overnight into Monday morning which will help to reinforce the very warm and dry conditions across interior sections. Inland areas will continue to have elevated fire weather conditions Monday through Tuesday due to temperatures climbing into the 90s to around 100 and minimum humidities in the teens and upper single digits. A cooling trend will begin on Wednesday, with more significant cooling Thursday through next weekend. One area of concern on Wednesday will be the Highway 14 corridor from Santa Clarita to the Antelope Valley where gusty southwest winds, along with continued warm and dry conditions could bring some brief critical fire weather concerns. && .LOX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA...NONE. PZ...NONE. && .HAZARD POTENTIAL OUTLOOK (WED-SUN). Gusty westerly winds expected across the Antelope Valley combined with warm temps and low humidities will create an elevated fire danger mid to late week. && $$ PUBLIC...MW AVIATION...Smith MARINE...Sweet/Kittell FIRE...Gomberg SYNOPSIS...Kj weather.gov/losangeles
