841 FNUS56 KLOX 011518 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 818 AM PDT Sat Jun 1 2019 ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE MOUNTAINS...THE CUYAMA VALLEY AND THE INTERIOR VALLEYS OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES... ...THUNDERSTORM THREAT GRADUALLY DIMINISHING SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY... .DISCUSSION...As a weak upper low settles over the district today, instability will increase across the mountains and interior sections this afternoon and evening. With an increase in mid-level moisture, thunderstorms will become more of a threat this afternoon and evening. At this time, the best chances for thunderstorm development will be over the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara county as well as the back country of the Ventura and Santa Barbara county mountains. However, there will even be a threat of thunderstorms over the Los Angeles county mountains, the Antelope Valley and even the foothills of the Santa Ynez Valley. Any thunderstorms that develop will be slow-moving, producing heavy rainfall. So, there is the potential for flash-flooding for the mountains and interior sections and a FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for this afternoon and evening. For Sunday through Tuesday, the upper low will gradually move south and east of the area. Therefore, the thunderstorm threat will gradually diminish. Otherwise, a rather typical marine layer pattern will persist for the coasts and coastal valleys. Night through morning low clouds and fog will push well into the valleys each night with mostly sunny skies each afternoon although coastal areas could remain cloudy during the afternoon and evening. Afternoon temperatures will exhibit a gradual cooling trend through Sunday with warmer temperatures expected Monday through Wednesday. Typical onshore winds can be expected each day.
