A weak upper low, currently over far northern California will move south today and Friday, then will settle over Southern California Saturday through Monday. As this pattern develops, moisture and instability will remain sufficient to bring the threat of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms to the local mountains as well as interior sections of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties through Monday. Any thunderstorms that develop will be slow-moving and localized flash flooding will be a threat. Other than the threat of thunderstorms over the mountains and interior sections, a rather typical marine layer pattern will persist for the coasts and coastal valleys. Night through morning low clouds and fog will push into the valleys each day with sunny skies each afternoon. Afternoon temperatures will peak today then will exhibit a gradual cooling trend through Sunday with a slight rebound on Monday. Typical onshore winds can be expected each day. ...Discussion from Monterey... A 2000 foot marine layer this morning with widespread low clouds slowly pulling back to the coast. An upper disturbance will generate showers and isolated thunderstorms over Lake county this afternoon that could drift into far northern Sonoma and Napa. Elsewhere conditions will remain dry with a slight cooling trend today. Upper low will keep instability over the hills from Mt Hamilton southward to around Parkfield on Friday afternoon while other areas warm and dry out. Gradual inland warming trend develops late in the weekend and early next week while the marine layer will likely remain entrenched along the coast. Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified. Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds. $$ ECC028-310930- Santa Barbara County excluding Los Padres National Forest- Discussion for Santa Barbara ECC Dispatch 830 AM PDT Thu May 30 2019 ...AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY OVER THE LOCAL MOUNTAINS AND INTERIOR SECTIONS THROUGH MONDAY...
