Some light snow accumulation is possible at times above 6500 feet. Dry, breezy, and cool conditions are forecast Friday and Saturday with unsettled weather returning by Memorial Day. && .DISCUSSION...Our next unseasonably cold low pressure system continued to dive southeastward through Nevada and northern California during the evening. The result, look for breezy conditions for most areas overnight, especially locations just to the northeast of the Mogollon Rim, San Francisco Peaks, and White Mountains. A few light showers have also developed along and north of a Flagstaff to Window Rock line and this will be the most favorable area for showers overnight. Snow levels will fall to around 6500 feet with an inch or two of accumulation over the Kaibab Plateau (Jacob Lake & North Rim). On Wednesday, the low pressure system will bring chilly temperatures and precipitation to northern Arizona. Daytime high temperatures will be 20 to 30 degrees below average for late May!! The highest chance of precipitation through the afternoon will be along/west of a Prescott-Flagstaff-Page line. Snow levels will be in the 6500-7500 foot range, with minor accumulations of less than an inch below 8000 feet while 1-2" of snow are possible on the Kaibab Plateau and along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. As the low moves eastward across the area Wednesday night, there will be the potential for some accumulating snow down to around 6500 feet, with snow mixing with rain down to 6000 feet. Current forecasts are for around an inch along the Mogollon Rim including the Flagstaff area - be prepared for some slick roads Wednesday night and during the Thursday morning commute. For the Kaibab Plateau & San Francisco Peaks - an additional 1-3" of snow is possible Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Thursday through Saturday...Precipitation chances will gradually decrease and become confined to the northern third of the state by Thursday afternoon and then end Thursday evening as the low moves off to the northeast. Cool and breezy conditions will continue through this period, though Saturday and Sunday will "only" be 5 to 10 degrees below average. Sunday through Tuesday...Strong winds are set to return Sunday ahead of another closed low pressure system. Low precipitation chances and cooler temperatures remain in the forecast for Memorial Day as the low moves through.
