078 FXUS64 KMRX 201915 AFDMRX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Morristown TN 315 PM EDT Mon May 20 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Tonight and Tuesday)... Frontal boundary stalls near the area tonight with drier air across the region, especially across NE TN and SW VA. With high pressure increasing at the surface and ridging building in aloft, expect a clear sky and relatively light winds. With the drier air advection, expect any patchy fog to be limited to river valleys. High pressure begins to shift east on Tuesday with the mid and upper ridge axis shifting eastward. This will result in increasing moist SW flow, especially across the southern valley and Cumberland Plateau, by the afternoon with WAA at 850mb. With increasing low-level temperatures and increasing heights, expect max temperatures to be 3 to 5 degrees warmer than today. Should have some sct cu along the southern plateau and valley by the afternoon where dew points will be highest, but no precipitation is expected. .LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Monday)... The main story for the long term forecast will be the continued heat. A strong upper ridge will be anchored over the southeast United States through the week, yielding afternoon highs that will be +10 degrees above normal for most places, culminating with temps in the 90s by Friday and Saturday afternoon. Rain chances will remain low overall, but despite the upper ridge holding strong over the area, some showers originating in the higher terrain in the afternoons beginning Friday will be possible. Have kept some slight chance over the higher terrain each afternoon thereafter to account for this. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
