It has been chilly and rainy today with temperatures only in the 40s this afternoon. Steady showers have brought up to half an inch of rain so far. As an upper level low moves down the west coast this weekend, several shortwaves will move through the long wave trough bringing lift for more showers and thunderstorms for the South Plains. Southwesterly flow will bring moisture in from the Pacific and PWATS are 0.75 to 1 inch this weekend, which is above 75% of normal. Expect precip to be mostly showers but there is enough instability for some occasional thunder as well. While temperatures will be about 10-15 degrees warmer tomorrow, clouds will keep highs in the 60s. Early next week the upper level low will open up as it moves across central Texas. The low continues to track south, which would keep the highest precip chances in our southern counties Monday night and Tuesday. As the low moves overhead on Monday, vorticity with the low will make thunder more likely. Upper level ridging will build in mid week allowing our temperatures to return to normal with highs in the low 80s with low rain chances. && .LUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ 93
