765 FXUS66 KOTX 081742 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 1042 AM PDT Wed May 8 2019 .SYNOPSIS... There is a small risk for showers or a brief thunderstorm over the lower Idaho Panhandle today...otherwise expect dry and mild conditions through the remainder of the week. Winds will remain breezy from the north and northeast into Thursday. A strong warming trend will commence by the weekend pushing temperatures into the 80s...roughly 10 to 15 degrees above normal. && .DISCUSSION... Rest of today...A couple minor adjustments to the inherited forecast have been made for this morning's update. First...a small chance of thunder storms was added to the far southeastern zones for this afternoon and early evening with significant instability and marginal moisture availability over these locations but no detectable synoptic forcing on any of the latest models...however water vapor satellite loop indicates a weak upper level short wave dropping out of Canada and scheduled to pass through late today. This does not look like a significant threat...but worth a mention given the presence of isolated convection over this region yesterday. The second update involves tweaking down the expected high temperatures for the deep basin and Cascades due to a swath of mid level clouds slowly dissipating but sufficient to inhibit insolation for the next few hours...thus preventing achievement of the previously expected high temperatures. Still it will be a mild and warm day over the region once again today. /Fugazzi && .AVIATION... 18Z TAFS: A weak short wave disturbance dropping out of Canada along with some moisture and instability over the Idaho Panhandle will promote significant cumulus fields over the Panhandle and far southeast Washington with isolated showers and possibly a stray thunderstorm near the KLWS TAF sites. Otherwise quiet and VFR conditions with locally breezy northeast winds are expected through out the region through 18Z Thursday. /MJF && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
