841 FXUS63 KFSD 300903 AFDFSD AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 403 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight) Issued at 358 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2019 The morning will start off rainy for many, with mid-level frontogenesis helping to create a band of precipitation over the Sioux Falls region. This band weakens through the morning hours. Periods of rain are expected throughout the day as a broad upper level trough sits to the west; however, rain amounts and shower coverage is expected to lessen during the afternoon and evening, as the only distinct forcing feature will be well to the south and southeast (a shortwave trough moving through Kansas into Missouri). Daytime temperatures will be cool and about 15 degrees below average as light easterly surface winds continue to advect in a cool continental polar air mass. Slight chances for showers remain overnight into Wednesday, but overall rain amounts will be minimal. Cloudy skies persist, with low temperatures around 40. .LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday) Issued at 358 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2019 Wednesday into Wednesday night will continue to bring cloudy skies as the relatively stagnant trough remains over the western CONUS. Again, no distinct forcing features look to move through, so overall rain coverage will be spotty, with only light amounts forecast due to a weak upper wave. Thursday will be mostly dry and on Friday breezy southerly winds gusting 25 to 35 mph develop ahead of an incoming shortwave. Temperatures recover closer to seasonal normals as warmer air is brought in from the south. The front which will pass during the afternoon and evening doesn't appear overly strong, but a few thunderstorms and another hour or two of light to moderate rain looks likely. For the weekend and into early next week, the region remains under the jet stream, and several impulses will feed off the jet's baroclinicity, bringing chances for scattered showers every 36 hours or so. None of these weather systems are notable, with no major pattern change. Saturday should be the warmest day of the next seven, but even then, temperatures will only climb to near or slightly above average. Next week starts off with high temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Tuesday night) Issued at 1040 PM CDT Mon Apr 29 2019 Periods of rain showers will be possible over much of the TAF period, with some snow mixing in across central South Dakota west of KHON overnight. Ceilings will lower into the MVFR range overnight and then eventually toward IFR for Tuesday. Showers will come to an end from west to east very late in the TAF period although ceiling/vsby restrictions will likely hold on longer. && .FSD WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... SD...NONE. MN...NONE.
