472 FXUS63 KGID 230945 AFDGID Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hastings NE 445 AM CDT Tue Apr 23 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 345 AM CDT Tue Apr 23 2019 This morning... We are trying to get through this morning with little to no frost and then we will turn warmer for at least several days. The entire forecast area has a few to scattered high clouds around this morning while a low stratus deck has moved into our southeastern areas from the Geneva area down towards Hebron. These low clouds should retreat further southeast of the forecast area by later this morning. We could see some frost within the next several hours from the Greeley and Ord area down towards Lexington, but the Tri-Cities and points southeast appear as though we should be just warm enough to avoid frost this morning with the thickest clouds and their warming effect across our southeastern areas. This afternoon into tonight... We are expecting a great afternoon with very light if any wind given a surface high sliding southeast across the forecast area. There will be some high clouds associated with the trough across the southwestern United States, but they should be rather thin especially across Nebraska zones. High temperatures will be warmer today reaching into the mid and upper 60s. It will still cool off pretty good tonight with clear to mostly clear skies and light winds, but expect it to be just a little warmer than this morning so we do not expect any frost even across our northwest areas tonight. .LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday) Issued at 345 AM CDT Tue Apr 23 2019 We have a few passing chances for showers and thunderstorms with the better chances currently appearing to be Friday night and again Sunday night. Even with our better chances for rain it likely will not be a forecast area wide rainfall, but rather more scattered thunderstorms that will bring precipitation to just portions of our area. Temperatures should be great with 70s for highs Wednesday and Thursday and then either 60s or 70s thereafter Friday into early next week. Wednesday and Thursday... The dry weather will continue into at least Wednesday evening before a weak trough passing through the Dakotas brings just a slight chance for rain to areas north of I-80 late Wednesday night. Wednesday will likely be the warmest day of the week for most areas with everyone at least into the mid 70s before falling off a few degrees on Thursday behind a Wednesday night cold front. Friday and Saturday... We'll be in a northwesterly flow regime aloft with a quick moving shortwave tracking through Friday night. The combination of a strong low level jet nosing into the area and the shortwave passing across the northern/central plains could be enough to kick off scattered thunderstorms Friday night. The best chance for storms Friday night currently appears to be across Nebraska zones. Saturday could be a few degrees cooler with a breezy northerly wind behind a Friday night frontal passage. Sunday into Monday... The northwesterly flow turns more zonal with perhaps another shortwave tracking through Sunday night based on the 00Z GFS and ECMWF brining another decent shot for thunderstorms to portions of the forecast area. Uncertainty is still very high this far out on such a subtle jet feature. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z KGRI/KEAR TAFS through 06Z Wednesday) Issued at 120 AM CDT Tue Apr 23 2019 VFR conditions are expected to continue with only a few to scattered passing high cirrus clouds. The surface wind will be light and gradually transition from northerly early this morning to east southeast by later today. && .GID WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...None.
