688 FXUS64 KMRX 201545 AFDMRX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Morristown TN 1145 AM EDT Sat Apr 20 2019 .DISCUSSION... Closed upper low has moved over eastern KY and the extreme northeast part of the forecast area. light rain showers are rotating around it into the northeast and southwest parts of the forecast area this morning. Only small amounts of precipitation has fallen in the past 3 to 6 hours with most of it across northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. Temperatures at late morning are in the mid to upper 40s lower elevations but in the 30s higher elevations and around freezing or slightly lower in the highest mountains above 5000 feet. Newfound Gap at this time is 32 with a trace of snow in the parking lot and the Clingmans Dome Web Cam showing more than a trace. Expect snow to continue all day highest elevations and this evening as shortwave energy rotates around upper low into the mountains. Have updated hourly temperatures and dew points and have some lowering of temperatures northeast part in the afternoon as colder air from upper low gets farther east. Changed precipitation chances somewhat to account for the rotation of showers around upper low. With daytime heating expect a little more significant showers to develop for the afternoon. Coverage to vary from chance to likely as the bands rotate around the upper low. Updated forecast sent. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
