...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Upper 
Michigan...

  Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Baraga and Houghton Counties

.The initial rise of the Sturgeon River at Alston due to last nights rainfall 
and melting snow has stabilized, and river levels have fallen just below flood 
stage this evening. However, upstream observations at Sidnaw indicate that the 
river continues to rise, and the forecast calls for warming temperatures for 
Friday into the mid to upper 50s. Thus, additional snow melt will likely bring 
the river back above 8 feet in the morning hours Friday. The flood warning will 
remain in effect. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message...Even 6 inches of fast moving flood water can knock 
you off your feet...and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never 
try to walk...swim...or drive through such swift water. If you come 
upon flood waters...stop...turn around and go another way.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Sturgeon River near Alston.
* until late Sunday night.
* At  9:30 PM Thursday the stage was 8.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by early tomorrow and continue to
  rise to near 8.5 feet by tomorrow evening.the river will fall below
  flood stage by Sunday morning.
* At 8.0 feet...Homes and structures along the low lying areas and 
  numerous roads become impacted by flood water. In Houghton 
  County...Sturgeon River Road...Aho Road...and Rajala Road are 
  impacted. In Baraga County...Sturgeon Road...Halonen Road and 
  Usitalo Road are impacted. Along Froberg Road...Tahtinen Road...
  Irwin Road...Oliver Road...and Shirley Road are impacted..
