(Tonight and Friday) A weak cold front is currently located across the northern Concho Valley and Heartland, with temperatures across the Big Country generally in the 50s to lower 60s, and temperatures south of the front generally in the 70s. The front will slowly sag south this evening, then stall and become diffuse across southern portions of the area. Light winds and low dewpoint temperatures overnight will allow for fairly good radiational cooling conditions. Low temperatures will be below seasonal normals, in the low to mid 40s. Another cold front will approach the Big Country late Friday afternoon. Highs will range from the upper 60s to mid 70s across the Big Country to the lower 80s elsewhere. .LONG TERM... (Friday night through Thursday) ...Showers and thunderstorms Friday night into Saturday... A strong upper trough will approach the region from the west Friday night, moving over the region Friday morning as it deepens and closes off over Central Oklahoma Saturday evening. There will be a quick moisture return Friday evening ahead of the system. With increasing instability with cold air aloft ahead of the upper trough, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday night into Saturday. While isolated showers/thunderstorms could develop Friday evening, mainly from the Concho Valley north to Sweetwater and Roby, the main start for storms will be after 1 AM CDT. Enough instability and shear will be present for a few severe storms along and north of a Sterling City to Abilene to Baird line, with quarter size hail and damaging winds the main weather threat. Some locally heavy rainfall amounts of 1/2 to 3/4 inch possible in the Big Country...1/2 inch in the Concho Valley and Heartland and 1/10 to 1/4 inch farther south along the I-10 corridor. Showers and thunderstorms activity will be diminishing Saturday afternoon south the Big Country, and Saturday evening in the Big Country, as the upper low heads northeast. It will cooler in the lower 50s for highs Saturday in the Big Country, with 60s farther south, and even lower 70s south of I-10. Drier air with west to northwest winds are expected Sunday, with a warming trend with highs in the 80s Monday into Wednesday.
