326 FXUS63 KGID 050013 AFDGID Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hastings NE 713 PM CDT Thu Apr 4 2019 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Friday) Issued at 238 PM CDT Thu Apr 4 2019 Main concern tonight will be fog development, especially in our east. Although clouds are finally eroding for much of the CWA today, forecast lows will get close to where are dewpoints are right now, in the mid 40s, and I expect stratus building back to the west and at least patchy fog with perhaps localized denser areas developing. A shortwave ridge will help ensure a warm-up tomorrow, but I am skeptical on how quick our stratus will erode, so I held back on doing much of an increase in temperatures. I do expect the breeze to pick up as the surface pressure gradient tightens. .LONG TERM...(Friday night through Thursday) Issued at 238 PM CDT Thu Apr 4 2019 The pattern still looks quite progressive for the long term with a shot at showers and thunderstorms both Friday night and also Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. If we can get the theta-e ridge far enough east, we could get a few strong thunderstorms in our west for Friday night. Strong low-level lapse rates could spark thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon along a surface trough, with decent severe parameters to give us a shot at some strong to severe storms that could extend into at least the evening hours. Beyond this, the next big weather maker will be the mid-week storm that will most certainly give us some strong wind, if not some measurable snow. Still too early to get into any specifics. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z KGRI/KEAR TAFS through 00Z Friday) Issued at 643 PM CDT Thu Apr 4 2019 The primary aviation concern will center around the development of a low stratus deck/fog late tonight generally after 1 AM. The wind will be very light tonight and several forecast models indicate fog and even possibly dense fog with the highest likelihood of fog being around Highway 281 east. Therefore, fog and low ceilings late tonight into Friday morning is more likely at KGRI than at KEAR, but it can not be ruled out at KEAR. If fog does develop, airport minimums could be reached at times early Friday morning with very poor visibility. && .GID WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...None.
