926 FXUS66 KEKA 301120 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 420 AM PDT Sat Mar 30 2019 .SYNOPSIS...Dry weather is expected today and Sunday, followed by the development of light rain during Sunday night and Monday. Wet and unsettled weather will continue during much of next week, with heavy rain possible on Friday. && .DISCUSSION...Midlevel heights were rising across the west coast downstream from an upper trough located over the NERN PAC. The resultant dry subsident large-scale regime was favoring mainly clear skies, with the exception of patchy valley/coastal fog/stratus. In addition, robust radiational cooling was aiding in temperatures in the low to mid 30s across Trinity and northeastern Mendocino County...these temperatures support the inherited Frost Advisory. Midlevel ridging is forecast to continue through Sunday, which will likely preclude the onset of precipitation until Sunday night as height falls occur with the approach of an upper disturbance. Model guidance indicates rain will persist through Tuesday night, followed by dissipation during Wednesday as upper ridging occurs once again. Additional episodes of precipitation are probable after Wednesday...particularly on Friday as a strong frontal system moves east across the region. JMG && .AVIATION...VFR is expected to prevail through the next 24 hours or so as high pressure builds over the area. Isolated areas of early morning fog and low clouds are possible...especially across the interior valleys but increasing sun angles should help erode these clouds by mid to late morning...giving way to widespread vfr by the afternoon. && .MARINE...Fairly tranquil marine conditions are expected for the next couple of days as light northerlies persist and high pressure builds over the region. A weak weather system will arrive late Sunday and bring a return of southerlies but wind speeds are expected to remain below SCA at this time. A series of small mid to long period swell groups will propagate into NW California waters through mid next week. && .BEACH HAZARDS...A long period WNW swell is forecast to arrive late afternoon into the evening hours of Sunday. The energy from this swell will initially be too low to pose a threat for sneaker waves on Sunday. The swell will build Sunday night into Monday morning, however conditions do not appear favorable for a sneaker wave setup due to poor weather conditions and the presence of shorter period wave energy. For now, we will just add a mention of possible sneaker waves in the Hazardous Weather Outlook. Beachgoers should remain vigilant, especially Sunday night/Monday morning. && .EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA...Frost Advisory until 8 AM PDT this morning for CAZ110-111.
