893 FXUS64 KMAF 251949 AFDMAF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 249 PM CDT Mon Mar 25 2019 .DISCUSSION... Moisture return will begin in earnest overnight as high pressure slips to the east. Increasing clouds are expected overnight along the Rio Grande northwestward along the mountains tonight and especially tomorrow. This moisture, combined with daytime heating, orographic lift, and some deep-layer ascent stemming from a passing short wave trough, should be enough for at least isolated showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms over these areas, mainly Tuesday through Wednesday night. Elsewhere no sensible weather is forecast through the short term. As we get into the long term portion of the forecast, short wave ridging aloft along with thickness increases will result in above normal temperatures, especially as we get into Thursday and Friday. High temperatures Friday will rise into the mid to upper 90s along the Rio Grande with generally 80s forecast everywhere else. We could see an uptick in fire weather concerns for Friday afternoon across southeastern New Mexico and far west Texas given the combination of westerly downslope winds and low relative humidity values. A cold front will arrive, however, just in time for the weekend, knocking down temperatures some 15 to 20 degrees for Saturday and Sunday, along with increasing clouds and at least isolated showers over most areas. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
