Showers and thunderstorms, a few of which are severe, have developed near the Texas/New Mexico border west of Amarillo. As the parent storm system shifts east tonight into Saturday, the storm development will likewise shift to the east. Storms should reach the 100th meridian about mid-evening (0000 to 0200 UTC), bringing a threat of severe wind and hail. While instability is somewhat lacking, wind fields with the available instability will support strong/severe storms into far western Oklahoma until around midnight. Storms are expected again Saturday, and strong storms will be possible again, mainly across south-central and southeast Oklahoma. A second upper-level wave will catch up with the departing wave Sunday, maintaining at least a chance of storms into Sunday. Slightly cooler and generally dry weather will follow for early next week, before another storm system arrives Thursday and Friday, bringing another chance for thunderstorms.
