262 FXUS62 KFFC 170008 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 808 PM EDT Sat Mar 16 2019 .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 253 PM EDT Sat Mar 16 2019/ SHORT TERM /Today through Monday/... Short term period begins with the southeastern CONUS under a westerly flow pattern. A series of weak disturbances traverse the flow, but will stay in south Georgia and along the Gulf Coast, keeping most of the moisture and precipitation mainly to the south of the forecast area aside from some slight chance PoPs in central Georgia Sunday afternoon. The disturbances to the south coupled with surface high pressure building over north Georgia will allow for a steep north to south moisture gradient to set up over the area. As a result, a north to south gradient of cloud cover will be in place over the area, with broken to overcast skies to the south and partly cloudy skies to the north. Highs are expected to be in the 50s in north Georgia and in the low to mid 60s in central Georgia, while lows are expected to be generally in the mid to upper 30s in north Georgia and low to mid 40s in central Georgia. The exception regarding the overnight lows is the higher elevations of the far northeastern portion of our area, where temperatures could drop to near or below freezing in some locations. A Freeze Warning has been issued for the far northeastern counties from 06Z until 14Z, as a result. With light winds and cold temperatures, some patchy frost is also possible across far north Georgia. King LONG TERM /Monday Night through Friday/... High pressure and dry conditions will be the rule for much of the extended portion of the forecast. A dry cold front is still expected to move through on Monday, ushering in a slightly cooler airmass. Temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below normal are likely. A second, weak, frontal boundary is anticipated to move south across the area during the latter part of next week. This front still doesn't make much southward progress before dissipating. Little, if any, precip is anticipated outside of far north GA. NListemaa FIRE WEATHER... MinRH values below 25 percent are likely on Monday, mainly along and south of the I-85 corridor.
