739 FXUS63 KFGF 160212 AFDFGF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Grand Forks ND 912 PM CDT Fri Mar 15 2019 .UPDATE... Issued at 912 PM CDT Fri Mar 15 2019 Looks like the very light snow expected later tonight into early Saturday morning should slide west of the FA. Therefore removed the mention of light snow across the southwest FA during this time period. Otherwise, there are still a few low clouds from Baudette to Bemidji with mid and high level clouds streaming into eastern ND already. This should help keep fog at bay and prevent temperatures from bottoming out too much tonight. && .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday Night) Issued at 300 PM CDT Fri Mar 15 2019 Impacts for the short term continue to remain low. Will see a couple weak periods of pcpn move across the northern plains overnight into Saturday the first will bring a band of light snow across NW ND into south central ND by Saturday morning. This band may brush southern Sargent and Richland counties with some light snow, less than an inch, before dawn. Will also see PoPs increase during the day down the valley and into NW MN with weak WAA and weak q-vector divergence in the 300-500mb layer as weak short wave moves down the NW flow aloft. Again snow will be light with an inch or less expected through Saturday night into Sunday morning. Temps tonight will drop down into the single digits as skies remain clear with some rising occuring before dawn in the west with the increase of clouds. Saturdays high temps will be around 30F, still below normal. .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday) Issued at 300 PM CDT Fri Mar 15 2019 The long term pattern continues to look quiet wrt to impacts as temperatures slowly moderate as upper level ridging brings a warming trend to the northern plains. The only precip chances appear set for Monday night with warm air advection leading to low QPF. Will see temps on Sunday be the coldest day of the week with highs in the low 30s. By the end of the work week temps high temps will range from 40 to near 50 in the trees. The daily spring freeze thaw cycle will begin the snow pack ripening process through this period. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Saturday evening) Issued at 640 PM CDT Fri Mar 15 2019 Fog is the main question for this set of TAFs. At this point, confidence is not really high in it, so only mentioned for a few of the TAF sites. Will see how later model guidance looks before deciding if it needs to be mentioned at other sites, or if it looks worse than anticipated. && .FGF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ND...None.
