531 FXUS63 KOAX 012341 AFDOAX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Omaha/Valley NE 541 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Monday) Issued at 229 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 Hope you have enjoyed the warmth today with readings in the mid 20s to lowers 30s. It only goes downhill from here though with highs in the teens and 20s on Saturday, then record cold low maxes on Sunday with highs only in the single digits. We're also expecting some snow to move across the region Saturday through Saturday night. Amounts will not be large, ranging from one half inch across west central Iowa, to around 3 inches near the NE/KS border. Considering this turned out to be what feels like the longest winter ever, and winds remain on the lighter side, felt that an advisory wasn't needed at this time. Low temperatures drop to 8 below to 9 above Saturday night. When combined with the wind, this will create wind chill values 10 to 15 to 25 below zero north of Interstate 80. We will eventually need a wind chill advisory for that area, but will likely wait until tonight or tomorrow to issue that. Record cold continues Sunday with highs only in the single digits. This should break previous low maximum highs for this date, which range from 6 at Norfolk, to 10 at both Lincoln/Omaha. Another bitter cold night Sunday night with lows 5 to 10 below zero. While this is harsh for March 4th, it won't break any records as previous values are -13 at Omaha, -19 at Lincoln, and -20 at Norfolk. Another cold day Monday with highs again in the single digits to low teens, but with dry conditions. .LONG TERM...(Monday night through Friday) Issued at 229 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 The extended period will see a gradual warming trend. Dry Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs start out in the teens, but reach the 20s and 30s for Wednesday through Friday. And shocker, more snow in the forecast for Thursday. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Saturday evening) Issued at 538 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 MVFR cigs will linger across eastern Nebraska through the evening before lifting to VFR. An area of light snow will move in from the west Saturday morning, affecting KOFK and KLNK around 18Z with IFR cigs/vsbys likely. Mainly MVFR cigs/vsbys are expected at KOMA as eastward extent of snow will be limited. && .OAX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...None.
