067 FXUS64 KSJT 151725 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 1125 AM CST Tue Jan 15 2019 .AVIATION... /18Z TAFS/ Ceilings continue to slowly deteriorate late this morning, leaving most of West Central Texas terminals with MVFR cigs. Models continue to struggle with this low cloud deck, but do suggest that cigs should level off and perhaps increase some by late afternoon and early evening. In any case, most of the locations will see MVFR to low end VFR cigs at best, with conditions deteriorating again overnight as low level moisture surges back northward. Winds will remain light, mainly out of the south. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 543 AM CST Tue Jan 15 2019/ AVIATION... /12Z TAFS/ Expect widespread stratus with MVFR ceilings at the terminals this morning. The ceilings will rise to low end VFR by early this afternoon, and scatter out at the KABI/KSJT terminals by early this evening. Expect MVFR ceilings to return to the KSOA/KJCT terminals by 09Z Wednesday. 21 PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 355 AM CST Tue Jan 15 2019/ SHORT TERM... (Today and Tonight) .Continued Cool... Persistent low clouds today will again prevent sunshine from warming temperatures this afternoon. Much like yesterday afternoon, low clouds will likely dissipate, across our northern counties first; thus, afternoon highs there today should be very close to usual mid January highs. Farther south, along our Interstate 10 corridor, highs today from around 50 to perhaps the lower 50s, look more reasonable. For tonight, low clouds return to most of West Central Texas, and this cloud cover will help hold overnight lows mainly in the lower to mid 40s. LONG TERM... (Wednesday through Monday) .Temperature Swings and Possible Rain... The long term forecast continues to include a warming trend, another cold front, possible rain, and a few days of unusually cold temperatures. A warming trend will continue, for the remainder of this week, and afternoon highs for Friday in the 70 to 75 range remain likely. Then, a strong arctic cold front will move, from north to south, across West Central Texas Friday night and bring gusty winds, from the north, along with the potential for rain. The best rain chances remain over our southeastern counties. Following that cold front, unusually cold temperatures will then dominate next weekend, with highs some 10 to 15 degrees colder than usual mid January highs. What's more, wind chills Saturday night in the 10 to 15 degrees range look likely. Colder than usual temperatures will continue into Sunday. Then, low-level flow, from the south, returns and helps produce afternoon highs on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, much closer to usual highs. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
