...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THURSDAY...


* WHAT... Heavy lake effect snow and blowing snow expected. Total
  snow accumulations 5 to 10 inches, with local amounts up to 12
  inches expected. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will cause 
  areas of blowing and drifting snow.

* WHERE...Onondaga, Madison and Southern Cayuga counties.

* WHEN...Steadier snow develops during the late afternoon hours
  today, with periods of moderate to occasionally heavy snow and 
  blowing snow tonight. Snow showers and areas of blowing snow 
  continue through the day Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of 
  blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The 
  hazardous conditions could impact morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy lake effect snow means
significant amounts of lake effect snow are forecast that will
make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel,
keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case
of an emergency.

  accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with localized amounts up to 8
  inches expected. The higher end snow amounts are expected across
  northern Seneca, Tompkins and Cortland counties. Winds gusting
  as high as 45 mph will create areas of blowing and drifting snow.

* WHERE...Northern Oneida, Seneca, Tompkins, Southern Oneida, 
  Cortland, Chenango and Otsego counties.

* WHEN...Steadier snow develops during the late afternoon hours
  today, with periods of moderate snow and blowing snow tonight. 
  Snow showers and areas of blowing snow continue through the day 
  Thursday.
