658 FXUS63 KICT 091125 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 525 AM CST Wed Jan 9 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Friday night) Issued at 226 AM CST Wed Jan 9 2019 A mid/upper ridge across the Rockies is progged to translate eastward today and Thursday bringing quiet weather conditions and moderating temperatures through Thursday. Light winds are anticipated today as high pressure at the surface translates eastward across the area. This will allow the strongest radiational cooling to occur across eastern Kansas tonight while breezy southerly winds return to much of central and western Kansas. Chances for precipitation will return for Friday through Saturday as a shortwave trough emerges from the Rockies. Confidence in more widespread wetting rain is beginning to increase although precipitation type remains in question. Maintained a rain/snow mention across much of the area late Fri night into early Sat as the near surface temperatures remain above freezing but near or under 3 C supporting a rain/snow mix at times. Recent GEFS/GEPS trends support a northward shift of the system and slightly higher surface temperatures but confidence in precipitation type remains fairly low at this time. .LONG TERM...(Saturday through Tuesday) Issued at 226 AM CST Wed Jan 9 2019 There remains some timing differences between the various models but precipitation should begin to diminish from west to east on Sat night. Temperatures are expected to moderate with a return to dry weather as we move through the beginning of next week as a mid/upper ridge returns to the central CONUS. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Thursday morning) Issued at 518 AM CST Wed Jan 9 2019 VFR conditions are expected throughout the TAF period. Winds will be light and variable. During the night tonight, the low level winds will begin to pick up. These winds will decouple from the surface quickly setting up a wind shear situation over the RSL and GBD areas. Metzger && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
