Sporadic wind gusts in excess of 40 mph lingered after midnight across central and northern Iowa. Temperatures continued to drop overnight with readings near 10 degrees over the northeast along with wind chill values of 5 to 10 below zero. Temperatures were warmer over the south with readings in the 20s. Sky conditions were mostly clear though a few patches of clouds were still streaming across the state. Today will be much colder than the last several days with high temperatures in the teens across Minnesota and northeast Iowa while readings in the 30s will be common from southwest Iowa into Missouri and Nebraska. A slow warming trend is forecast Thursday and Friday ahead of a system that will impact the Midwest late Friday into Saturday. That system is expected to bring an area of accumulating snowfall to portions of southern Iowa and adjacent areas to the south and east. $$
