252 FXUS62 KFFC 082346 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 646 PM EST Tue Jan 8 2019 .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 237 PM EST Tue Jan 8 2019/ SHORT TERM /Tonight through Wednesday Night/... A dry, colder weather pattern setting up across the forecast area. An area of clouds just ahead of a reinforcing cold front is starting to scatter out this afternoon and this trend should continue into this evening. Broken clouds at 1kft to 3kft will slowly improve to scattered clouds at 4kft to 6kft with mostly clear to clear skies over night as drier air filters into the area. Cold northerly flow across the area will bring temperatures in the 30 to mid 40s across the area by morning, with afternoon high temperatures near or below normal for tomorrow. The surface gradient will tighten enough tonight throughout the day tomorrow for wind gusts near or above 35mph over portions of northeast Georgia, and will issue a wind advisory for that area. Otherwise, gusty winds can be expected across the forecast area throughout the day tomorrow. By thursday morning, overnight lows will be 5-10 degrees below normal for this time of year. Atwell && .LONG TERM /Thursday through Tuesday/... Extended forecast period continues to look much more seasonal than the past several weeks have been. Big question remains how much wintry mix of precipitation will we see this weekend, and how far south and west it will extend. GFS has remained the more aggressive with developing the wedge and with holding it in place. Although this trend continues, it has backed off just a bit on the strength and persistence. GFS also continues to be the more progressive of the medium range models with the upper flow and surface low, but does linger some light precipitation across the forecast area into Sunday night, possibly into Monday. In general I have stayed with a model blend through the extended. Current temperature forecast keeps wintry precipitation confined to the northeast, starting Friday night with diminishing coverage of the wintry mix through the day Saturday. Better precipitation coverage and intensity shifts east Saturday night/Sunday as the atmosphere slowly continues to warm, but we are likely to see some mix persisting in the far northeast and mountains. We will need to keep a close watch on model trends as we go forward for any indication that this threat will expand south and west. 20 && .AVIATION... 00Z Update...
