683 FXUS64 KSJT 022101 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 301 PM CST Wed Jan 2 2019 .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday Night) ...Freezing Rain Tonight Changing to Snow on Thursday... This afternoon, temperatures were in the upper 20s to low 30s as an Arctic airmass has settled in across West Central Texas. An upper- level low is continuing its trek across the Desert Southwest and should make its way into far west Texas overnight. Areas of freezing rain and freezing drizzle have persisted for much of the day with ice accumulation amounts of a few hundredths up to a tenth of an inch. Overnight, the cold air should continue to keep sub- freezing temperatures across the area, with areas of freezing drizzle and/or freezing fog likely. As the upper-level low continues its approach, the warm nose aloft should become cooler overnight and allow the column to go completely below freezing. As a result, precipitation should change over to snow after midnight and continue into tomorrow morning. By mid-morning, dry-slotting should erode areas of precipitation from the southwest. However, dynamic processes aloft will keep snow in place across much of the Big Country north of I-20 through tomorrow afternoon. This could result in snowfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with the highest amounts in Throckmorton and Haskell counties. At this time, we chose to stick with the existing advisory since this is just below warning criteria for Throckmorton County. Despite the cloud cover improving as the dry slot moves through, temperatures will be slow to warm tomorrow with widespread ice accumulation. Have lowered high temperatures several degrees for tomorrow from the MOS output and kept a flat-line trend for tonight. && SAK/MC .LONG TERM... (Friday through Wednesday) ...Possible Rain... Warmer temperatures and a dry spell will dominate through this weekend. Then, another upper-level system may create conditions favorable for rain Sunday night and Monday. However, confidence remains low regarding the track of the upper system. So, continuing only slight chance PoPs, for these two periods, looks best this forecast cycle. Otherwise, temperatures will remain warm into the middle of next week. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
