794 FXUS62 KMLB 240157 AFDMLB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 857 PM EST Sun Dec 23 2018 .DISCUSSION... Another clear, calm, cool night for east central Florida as temps drop into the mid to upper 40s, except in the low 40s across the rural interior, and near 50 degrees in Martin County. Temps return to seasonal values for Christmas Eve into Christmas Day with no rain in the forecast. Historical Tidbit: If you think it's cold outside now, you may want to talk to someone who was around at this time in either 1983 or 1989. Looking back at historical records, all but one of the low temperature records for December 23, 24, 25, and 26 occurred in either 1983 or 1989. Low temps dropped into the upper teens to low 20s for consecutive days in east central Florida, and high temps struggled to reach the 40s at times. Both of these cold spells were devastating hard freeze events that caused catastrophic impacts across much of Florida; in fact, these were two of the five major freezes to impact the state in the 1980s. && .AVIATION... VFR. Potential for fog development seems to have diminished due to the presence of high level clouds. However, there may still be some MIFG (shallow fog on the runways) that briefly develops around sunrise at KMCO/KISM/KLEE, but confidence is too low to include as a TEMPO group in TAFs at this time. && .MARINE... High pressure shifting eastward overnight with light, variable winds becoming northeast around 10-15 knots by Monday afternoon. Initial seas of 1-2 feet increase up to 3 feet in the offshore waters. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
