Dry and mild weather will characterize the short-term forecast period amid high pressure remaining in control. As the upper ridge axis moves overhead on Tuesday morning, northwest flow aloft today will transition to southwest flow by Tuesday night into Wednesday morning which will set the stage for moisture return beyond the end of the forecast period. Light winds and clear skies tonight will allow temperatures to drop into the 30s areawide, though temperatures will remain above freezing for most areas. Patchy fog will again be possible overnight before dissipating by mid-morning Tuesday. Temperatures will rebound into the 50s and 60s again on Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. RW && .LONG TERM /Wednesday through Monday/... Little changes to forecast with Thurs/Fri system given some even better consensus seen in the guidance members. Raised some pops given slightly better confidence. Still uncertainty though on how much cooling in a saturated layer can occur for any rain to snow shower transition for parts of the far north late Friday. Previous discussion follows... Baker PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 322 AM EST Mon Dec 17 2018/ LONG TERM /Tuesday Night through Sunday/... High pressure will begin to shift offshore by early Wednesday as a cold front and low pressure system moves into the Lower Mississippi River Valley. The front should impact the CWFA Thursday into Friday, before settling south of the area by early Saturday. High pressure will build in behind the boundary for the remainder of the weekend and into early next week. The highest pops for the forecast period will be Wednesday night through Friday night. Storm Total QPF currently ranges from around 1.5" in the NE to just over .75" in the south. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible through the period, especially during the day on Thursday as surface low pressure moves across. Isolated thunderstorms are possible across the southern third of the CWFA during on Thursday, the area most likely to be in the warm sector. NW flow aloft and at the surface will usher in colder air Friday night. Where the coldest air aloft moves into the area, there is some potential for wintry precipitation. For now, will mention a mixture of sw/rw mainly across the northern quarter of the CWFA. NListemaa && .AVIATION... 00Z Update... VFR conditions will predominate through this forecast period.
