.The first significant snow of the season is headed for the 
southern Sierra Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday 
morning.

...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING ABOVE 7000 FEET...

* WHAT...Heavy snow is possible above 7000 feet. Total snow
  accumulations of 6 to 10 inches possible above 8000 feet, 4 to 7
  inches between 7000 and 8000, and generally 4 inches or less 
  below 7000 feet. Winds gusting over 60 mph will occur over 
  passes and ridge lines.

* WHERE...The east slopes of the southern Sierra including Mount 
  Whitney.

* WHEN...Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This will likely create hazardous hiking and camping conditions
due to snow and blowing snow. Outdoor enthusiasts are urged to be
prepared for winter weather conditions or avoid the high Sierra
Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
